Leonardo DiCaprio is a great American Hollywood actor, film producer, and environmental activist.

I'm struggling for a long but no success. Help

I'm getting small roles in Films and TV serials but not good and regular roles. What to do?

How to succeed as an actor in Films and TV serials in Mumbai?

Too many rejections in auditions. Frustrated. What to do?

Quitting acting due to no success in acting career. Is there any solution?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ambitious people are always striving for success and acting is no different. The question of how to be a successful actor has bothered thousands of actors and experts.
There’s good news, and then there’s bad news.

The good news is that there are 2 guaranteed formulas on how to win auditions and be a successful actor.

The bad news, however, is that these 2 formulas are not easy to crack. But if you stick with it, follow the rules, play the game, and give it all you’ve got, you might be a star in Bollywood or Hollywood or in TV.

Controlling  And Winning Your Auditions and Acting Career

Step 1.

Get selected in auditions

Caution!
Don't go for every audition. Check if it suits you before you apply and go for audition

Prescription 1

Your Type = age range + jobs + attitude

Explanation

  • Your type

We are all born a certain way, with a certain “look” and unless we want to commit to drastic plastic surgery, then we will be cast as specific roles in our acting careers. It’s up to actors to be smart enough to identify that look, harness it, and use it to our advantage. Are you look and suitable for:

Examples

  • Leading man/woman
  • 2nd man/woman
  • College student
  • Teacher, professor or principal
  • Village farmer
  • Good or a bad friend
  • Common street man/woman
  • Shopkeeper
  • Taxi driver
  • Businessman
  • Executive
  • Priest / Pujari
  • Crooked and sly
  • Comedian
  • Look belonging to a particular ethnicity like South Indian, North East etc
  • Short, Tall, Fat, Sickly
  • With a particular voice, accent and body language

How to conclude your 'Type'

  • Take a good hard look in the mirror. Pay attention to your face, your weight, your ethnicity, and your personality. Do you have a receding hairline? Do you have a thick accent? Listen to your voice. Do you sound smart and articulate when you talk, or do you sound uneducated? Be. Honest
  •  Finally, ask your close friends, an acting coach, or anyone who will be honest with you. Your good friends will be honest with you.

  • Age range

For example, you look between 22-32. This is called as screen age range

  • Jobs

Audition requirements for a role eg. college student, hot, sexy, taxi driver, shopkeeper, professor, middle-aged father, character actor, businessman etc

  • Attitude

As an individual are you a positive, negative, shy, aggressive, introvert, smiling, argumentative, peaceful, brave etc?

Step 2.

How To Become A Successful Actor?

Prescription 2

(P + HW + T) × L = S

Explanation

What is this, you ask? This is your equation of success. This is your formula towards succeeding in acting business. It’s

P: Perseverance
HW: Hard Work
T: Talent;
Then all of the above multiplied by
X: Multiply by luck
Equals to
Thumbs up
Success!

If you want to implement the above 2 formulas, we would love to have you join us

From A Rat to Top Dog | 4 Lessons Learned And Changed Self

 Nawazuddin Siddiqui
From a struggler to Bollywood star- Nawazuddin Siddiqi

How Was I A Stupid Actor?

5 years of struggle, rejections, depleted finances, mounting credits, criticism, mockery... it was everything terrible which compelled me to chicken out from my dream to be a great actor. Then I met an actor cum an acting coach and that changed my life. I pondered, analyzed my 5 years of struggle, practiced and changed.
Here  are my observations and tips to all actors

The day I was struck by how similar the rules to acting are to the rules of success in life.
After being labeled as a "Struggler" for long, the day had come when either I find the reason and change myself or quit acting. After analyzing my past of 5 years, asking close ADs and my acting coach,  I found that much like attaining success,  good acting is far from easy. The brighter side is, with the power of imagination, observation and regular practice, any one can be an excellent actor and be a believable on camera.

1. Forget Self And  Self-Consciousness by Concentrating On "The Other”

Here what I mean by "The Other" is reacting to your experience at the "moment" either in real in life or in a "imaginary moment" in a film scene or on stage. This is by reacting truthfully to what you have sensed through your 5 senses(see, smell, taste, listen and by touching)

  • To varying degrees, humans are all the same. We are preoccupied with ourselves and what others think of us can lead to occasional irritating thoughts to crippling anxiety
  • In acting, the number one rule is to lose self-consciousness, your "self", Archetype. Bad acting is often the result of self-awareness. It’s easy to tell when the actor is concerned with how they look, enjoying the sound of their voice or how they are performing. These thoughts take the actor way from the audience, and the actor loses being in a character and his credibility
  • Actors can avoid this pitfall by shifting their concerns on some object on the set, or on watching and really listening to co actor. By responding to what they see and focusing on their partner’s reactions, actors may forget that they are "acting".  By placing   focus on the other person could be the best way to achieve goal on-stage or for the camera-by responding to the people. Listen and I mean really listen and respond naturally.

2. Focus On Controlling What You Can Control

Not everything.  That may look fake

  • Once, when I was attending class by Scott Zigler.  I noticed he always emphasizes that “ deliberate indication” is a sign of bad acting. When an audience watches a performance, it is easy to feel and tell if the actor is truly angry or just trying to act angry (hence “indicating” anger).
  • To avoid this, actors need to STOP thinking that they need to "act".   For example to “feel” angry,  some will be trying desperately to "act" and the viewers will immediately feel them as "artificial". However, these actors can take at least "actions" which are within their control. For example, It is not my "attempt" to appear angry, but with my action like body language and gestures generated truthfully when you listen carefully and focusing on what and how my character will react may cause me to be angry.

3. It's Not What You Say But How You Say

I used to become frustrated during rehearsal when I felt that the lines in the script were awkward or out of character.
However, good actors do not need to rely on the words of the script. The lines are simply the means to the character’s goal, and the actual words are not nearly as important as the tone of voice, inflection, body language and emotions behind them. For example, the words “I love you” can be used to really tell someone: “I care about you”. The audience is humans and can detect the slightest emotional signs — from the worry in someone’s voice to anxiety from somebody’s breathing patterns. We need not be constrained by the script that we are assigned, but we should be conscious of the messages -hidden or not — behind the actual words.

4. Good Actor? Ha...ha...ha!

Acting isn't all about feeling the character and being in the moment. If you can't get a job, it's not about much at all. Acting is only possible if somebody's prepared to sit and watch you do it. To survive emotionally and professionally, the trick, therefore, is to be in the top 8%. I recollected my auditions and long queues for the same role. I realized that though the acting is an art, it’s also a business Which means that as an actor, you should view yourself as a businessman who is working hard at operating your business, organizing and creating its direction and success on a daily basis

How to get a role in auditions among hundreds of competitors?
Why I fail in Auditions?
Why casting directors don't give me roles?
I fail in auditions and want to quit. Is there any solution?
I get nervous in auditions. What's the solution?

Repeated Failure In Auditions In Spite Of  Good Acting
May Be Due

To Poor Confidence

One of the greatest enemy of  an actor dreaming of being successful and happy

“A poor image of your own self in your own eyes and mind”The best synonym for this common mental condition is "The Lack Of Confidence"

Check if are you a confident person or a doubtful person?
Do you feel and behave
Fearful, Afraid, Timid, Meek, Unsure, Pessimistic or Shy?

Signs Showing:

Low Self Confidence

1.  Your views are based on what other people think
2.  Staying in your comfort zone
3.  Cover up your mistakes
4.  Dismissing your mistakes

High Self Confidence

1.  Doing what you believe is right. Not bothered what others think
2.  Willing to take risks
3.  Admitting your mistakes and learning from them
4.  Accepting complaints graciously

How An Actor To Build Confidence

  • To start with, do a SWOT Analysis of your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats and write down on a table.
1. Work Hard on:
  • Further strengthening your strengths;
  • On overcoming your weaknesses and turning them into your + points;
  • Develop a strategy to avoid threats, which means working hard on alternate options and solutions; probably threats are due to some of your weaknesses
  • Always thinks of opportunities you have and benefits you will have if you exploit opportunities!

2. Further work on:

  • On developing your skills, excellence, and knowledge. Join a coach, a school and attend workshop regularly.
  • Set Time bound Goals: ie in 2 years, 1 year, 6 months, This and next month. Then prepare an action plan starting from the achievement of long-term objectives narrowing it down to the current month. Then work on schedules ie weekly, daily and so on.
  • Only think of positives.

3. Always think of good things

  • Ask others what you can do for them. Don't expect too much and always from others.
  • Join Yoga, Gym, Dancing and music classes. These activities will help you to develop a positive and cheerful mind apart from adding in your acting craft.
  • Attend shows, theater, music shows and events.

4. Do what interests you

  • Identify your successes since childhood, even small ones. Recollect them offer and smile.
  • Don't worry about the outcome of your efforts: For example, go for an audition as an event to enjoy and as a part of your training. Do your best, come out and celebrate your effort with a cup of tea or a drink either with your friends or alone, thinking good and smiling. In another word- CELEBRATE every small effort, not only an achievement!

5. Be aggressive

  • Develop a habit of "Barging in" (Pushing in)
  • Meet strangers; Talk and interact with everybody. However, while talking, always talk what others may like;
  • Tell a person without hesitation if he/she offends or negates you. Be frank. Don't worry about the outcome!

6. STOP your wandering

By instructing your mind by saying "stop" or count backward from 10 to 1. Focus and concentrate

7. Analyze your day

Start writing down a day's activities before you go to bed. What you have achieved and what you couldn't.

8. Smile and smile

Develop a habit of "Smiling" most of the time. Try this forcibly and consequently, it will become your habit.

9. Talk loudly

The world doesn't accept soft spoken people. They are considered as "Timid"

10. Must consider and do

  • Make decisions every day and follow irrespective of consequences.
  • Always think of bright future ahead you
  • Learn to accept "You are wrong"
  • Mind your body language. To be confident walk and talk confidently even if you are shitting in your pants! After all, you are an actor. Just fake it!
  • Don't compare yourself with others

11. Try new things

  • Dresses, games, friends, hobbies, exotic foods, traveling, places, camping, hiking, birding, nature etc.
  • Analyze good and successful people
  • Learn to say "NO". Don't compromise with "YES"

Positive Mental Food To Be A Successful Actor And Happy In Life

  • Just as your body is healthy to the degree to which you eat healthy, nutritious foods, your mind is healthy to the degree to which you feed it with “mental protein” rather than “mental candy.”
  • Read books, magazines, and articles that are educational, inspirational, or motivational. Feed your mind with information and ideas that are uplifting and that make you feel happy and more confident about yourself and your world.
  • Listen to positive, constructive CDs and audio programs on your MP3 player, Mobile or iPod. Feed your mind continually with positive messages that help you think and act better and make you more capable and competent in your field.

Not For You | Only For Those Who Want To Become A Star Actor

A confused aspiring actor
Don't Know How To Become An Actor?

"3 Serious Questions To Actors. Can You Answer Them? I don't Think So"

Do You Know What's Your Job As An actor?

Does It Solely Happen In Front Of Camera Or On stage?

Or Is Acting Job is All-Around, Varied, And Fulltime?

  • An actor (often actress for females; see terminology) is a person who portrays a character in a performance. The actor performs "in the flesh" in the traditional medium of the theatre, or in modern mediums such as film, radio, and television.

Answers

The job
An actor is someone who plays a character in film, television, radio or theatre productions. When most people think of actors they think of Hollywood actors who perform in blockbuster films, and this is often the ultimate aspiration of anyone dreaming of a career in acting.

Skills
Good stage, screen or vocal presence.
The ability to enter into another character and engage with an audience.
The ability to memorize lines.
Good understanding of dramatic techniques.
Having the confidence, energy, and dedication to perform.
Creative insight.

Acting
Acting is an activity in which a story is told by means of its enactment by an actor or actress who adopts a character—in theatre, television, film, radio, or any other medium that makes use of the mimetic mode.

Time
Your job is all-around, varied and full-time.

  • As an actor, you have to realize your job doesn’t depend and happen solely in front of the camera or on stage.
  • You’ve got to give as much attention to personal acting coaching or school, auditions, exercises at home or the gym, portfolio, marketing and career promotion, meeting people, rehearsals, and wardrobe as you do to your actual on-set performance. That means showing up on time. When you’re late or unprepared, it communicates that your time is more important than the other person’s time, and shows a great lack of respect for others.

Time Management

  • It's one of the important areas usually neglected by actors
  • Why Time Management is Important To Become A Successful Actor?

Problems And Solutions In Time Management

A. Time is limited
Everyone gets the same amount of time each day, and it's limited, therefore it's important to make the most of your time if you ever want to be more than average at highly competitive acting business where thousands aspiring actors (Maybe better than you) are desperately trying for the same break in Bollywood |TV as you.

B. You can get more with less effort
When you learn to take control of your time, you improve your ability to focus. And with increased focus comes enhanced efficiency, because your mind doesn't get distracted and wander. You’ll start to complete your tasks more quickly

C. Can make better decisions
There are many choices in acting life and often times we're faced with many choices to choose from at the same time. When you practice good time management, you have more time to breathe and think more objectively; this allows you to determine which choices are the best to make.

D. You become a disciplined actor
When you practice good time management in your life, you are less likely to delay or postpone things. Time management leads to your higher work output and leads to a disciplined life.

E. Defeat competition and become more successful
Time management is the key to success; it allows you to take a better control of your acting life rather than follow the others. You accomplish more, you make better decisions, and you work more efficiently; this leads to a success.

F. You learn more. Become important
When you control your time and work more efficiently, you have time to plan and spend it on learning and learning regularly. More, you can spend time in like industry networking, acting workshops, follow ups with artist coordinators, help production, direction etc.  There's a reason some aspiring actors learn earlier, better and cash opportunities better than competitors, so easily plan to implement time management throughout their entire career. You'll not only stand out from the rest, but you'll gain experience much faster and be able to move up to be a Bollywood actor a lot sooner.

G. You reduce an actor's anxiety and stress
The phrase "I have so much to do and so little time to do it" is generally spoken of frustration which leads to anxiety and stress. Another reason of stress is due to people feeling pushed and rushed! With good time management, you know how much time you have, how long it will take to get your tasks done, you accomplish more, and have more free time. This gives you more breathing room, which reduces the feeling of being rushed, which in turn leads to less frustration and stress.

H. Leads you to attain a true happiness
We all need some free time to relax, have happy moments with friends, love mate, well-wishers and unwind but, unfortunately, many of us don't get much free time because we're too busy trying to desperately meet with our daily activities and workload. By implementing time management skills, you are able to get more done in a shorter period of time leading to more free time to lead a truly happy life.

My conclusion

That said, I know shit happens as we’re all human. But often this behavior is the tip of the “deeper issues” inside an actor.
Would you even think of being

  • Late to set
  • Not knowing your lines?

  • Your behavior in these areas is indicative of how you value yourself and those around you.
  • Don’t give casting directors at meetings and auditions and directors on the set an excuse to have second thoughts about you.

If you want to succeed as an actor in this chaotic and ruthless competitive world of acting, learn how to be "Professional" in all the departments of "Success Requirements For An Actor".
If you do not know, read here. This is absolutely essential if you want to create opportunities for

"Your Success" and not for "A Failure"

Silly Actor, You Don't Know Being Good Why Failing? Fix It

Director Mira Nair to an actor...
Award winning director Director Mira Nair to an actor in a shoot...

Struggling for long as an actor with no success?

Often Failing in Bollywood and TV serial auditions?

Only getting small roles, no big success?

How to remove audition nervousness and a fear of forgetting lines?

  • The culprit for all the above
  • Read this small scene below and know the cause
  • Poor memorization?
  • How learning lines can impress your audition and give a great shot in a film scene
  • 2 great steps

A Screenplay
Vishwashghaat- A Betrayal

FADE IN:

INT. RAMESH HOUSE DRAWING ROOM- DAY

JOE
Ramesh, Ramesh, give my money back my friend......

DIRECTOR
Cut...it's not "friend". It's "father".  Listen, I know you’re actually very good... but things like brain fog and forgetting important things are your huge barrier. Learn how to memorize. Will call you later.

Poor Memorization Is One Of The Major Reasons Why Good Actors Fail

How Learning Lines Helps You To Create A Truthful Great Genuine Performance

After my experience with many actors with an excellence in acting craft who unfortunately failed miserably either in auditions or while on filming a scene, I have come to the conclusion of one of the major reason being a poor portrayal of the character due to a nervousness triggered by forgetting lines.
So, is a poor characterization by poor memorization or forgetfulness? I did considerable research to find out the best solution and though this may not be the only right way, here it's for you to try

Learning Lines ( Script)

Step 1.

  • Read your script focused deeply, without looking up, loudly even if you know it and repeatedly
  • Then three times without a wandering mind on bed before falling asleep
  • And three times as you get up in the morning
  • Go step by step In stage 1,  memorize first 3 lines. Cover these lines with some card and see you know them. Similarly then go to stage 2 and onwards
  • Start again from the beginning if you forget any line
  • Don't worry about creating a character, situation, tempo rhythm or emotions. These will follow once perfect with lines. This may be worked later if needed
  • "Script Rehearser Free" app from google play is a good tool which helps you to record other characters'lines and leave space on your own
  • After recording your dialogues, listen to it in waiting rooms, driving, traveling on subway-metro, bus, while walking, jogging or anywhere
  • Replace the lines of a song you remember to script lines. For example "Happy birthday to..." or "twinkle twinkle little star" and sing loudly
  • Write lines in the air and speak them
  • Type lines while speaking them in different font size and in colors on Desktop or laptop.

Step 2.

Creating Character
Once you have memorized your script to a level becoming your second nature, start working on the script for creating a character

  • Breakdown the line by line as per the psychology of the character
  • Questions to asked ( better, let the character answer-by you imagining to be the character)
  • What is the backstory of  the scene and of the character
  • What is a character's objective and how is he/she achieving it?
  • Why the character is saying things the way they are
  • What the importance is
  • What are the circumstances and situation in the scene
  • How the character is showing emotions while speaking (love, sadness, happiness, anger, hate, distaste, wonderment, like-dislike, distrust, peace etc)
  • Write down motives and action required for each line while speaking them
  • Now imagine and try to transform self into character and speak your dialogs in a given circumstances of the scene. Get natural beats and feel it.
  • Write keywords of each line in the margin of the script and make notes on the blank opposite page. Read them every time as needed

I know this is a task, but needed if you want to give a memorable performance in a journey to your dream destination

I'm confident you can improve.
Your Benefactor

8 Things Every Actor Should Do In The Morning

Life is busy. It can feel impossible to move toward your dreams of becoming an actor, from a middle/limited financially class of families, ignorant, non-graduate and inadequately proficient in Hindi and Spoken English, it’s even harder.

How do you go forward?
If you don’t have and practiced Time Management, without question, your time will get lost in the chaos of our increasingly crowded lives. Before you know it, you’ll be frustrated— wondering where all that time went.
However, live every moment of your life on your own terms.

Remember

  • You are the designer of your destiny.
  • You are responsible.
  • You get to decide. You must decide — because if you don’t, time doesn't wait!
  • So, change your life quickly.

Is it really simple?
Yes, it’s really quite simple:

  • Wake up
  • Get in the zone
  • Get moving
  • Put the right food in your body
  • Get ready
  • Get inspired
  • Get perspective
  • Do something to move you forward

Begin

1. Must have 7+ Hours of Sleep

Let’s face it — Sleep is just as important as eating and drinking water. Despite this, millions of people do not sleep enough and experience insane problems as a result.

A healthy amount of sleep could benefit you by:

  • Increased memory
  • Longer life
  • Increased creativity
  • Increased attention and focus
  • Decreased fat and increased muscle mass with exercise
  • Lower stress
  • Decreased dependence on pseudo-stimulants like tea, coffee, gutka, alcohol
  • Decreased risk of getting into accidents
  • Decreased risk of depression

2. Practicing Relaxation And Auto-Suggestion Techniques

After waking from a healthy and restful sleep session, practicing relaxation and auto suggestion techniques are crucial for an actor's  optimism and confidence creating a positive person in you.

3. Exercise

A good hot body is one of the fundamental requirements to become an actor in films, TV, as a model, and in commercials
Additionally, exercise has been found to decrease your chance of depression, anxiety, and stress. It is also related to higher success in your career.
If you don’t care about your body, every other aspect of your life will suffer.

4. Eat Proteins

Examples: cottage cheese, Indian pulses (Arhar, Moong, Beans) and vegetables, skimmed milk, lean meat like chicken, fish, eggs, nuts and dry fruits
Protein-rich foods keep you full longer than other foods because they take longer to leave the stomach. Also, protein keeps blood-sugar levels steady, which prevents spikes in hunger.
Eating protein decreases cravings for junk, oily and Indian masala rich foods.

5. Take daily a cold water bath

Cold water bath facilitates physical and mental wellness when practiced regularly, it provides long-lasting changes to your body’s disease defense, circulatory and digestive systems that improve the quality of your life. It can also increase weight-loss because it boosts your metabolism.
Studies prove taking cold showers routinely can help treat depression often more effective than prescription medications. That’s because cold water triggers a wave of mood-boosting elements you which make you feel happy.

6. Listen, See and Read Mood Uplifting Content

Ordinary people seek entertainment. Actors seek education, learning, and entertainment. Successful actors are constantly learning to improve their acting craft and to keep them regularly motivated and uplifted. For example, before audition listen to soothing old semi-classical music (songs and instrumental) to calm your nerves.

7. Set Your Goal (Life Vision) And Review Periodically

Your goals should be written down — short term and long term. Taking just a few minutes to read your life vision puts you on a right path.
If you read your long term goals every day you will think about them every day. If you think about them every day and spend your days working toward them.

How To Become A Successful Actor In 5 Minutes With 9 Punches

“I’ve never told in my school"~ Marlon Brando ( Hollywood Legend)

As for communication is concerned, we’re taught the basics of communication early in the classroom. To be able to read, write, and speak effectively, we had to learn vocabulary, grammar, spelling, handwriting, and pronunciation.
Today, especially in cine industry, how to deal and talk goes much further than school education of the written or spoken word. The purpose of communication is to build and grow connections with others at better than just contacting and talking. It is at an emotional level.
Therefore if you want to build up contacts with casting director, coordinators, producers, directors, TV channels and film production houses, the earlier you master communication skills, the better for you.
So, are you really serious to fulfill your dreams of becoming a successful actor, better read and practice  the cheat-sheet to the 9 essential communication skills your school and parents missed:

1. Showing warmth | sympathy

People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
Empathy makes us human. You connect with others much better when you show understanding, appreciation, sympathy, and compassion in your communication.
How-to do it:
Be present with the person and feel what he feels. When someone opens up with his problems, see it from his point of view. Suspend your own judgment of what’s right or wrong. Listen to his emotions. Reflect back his susceptibility by sharing yours. Ask questions to go deeper into his world. Give encouragement. Offer to help if possible. Show the kindness and compassion you would hope to receive from someone else when in a similar situation.

2. Resolving conflict

This is the "how to defuse a bomb" under top communication skills. Left unchecked, conflict can leave contacts, communication, relationships constantly turbulent and painful. Avoiding conflict altogether isn’t a solution either, as you’ll often be simmering with restrained frustration and resentment. Conflict often happens as a result of poor communication. To resolve such conflict, you’d need better communication skills.
How-to do it:
Respond, but never react. When you react to a conflict situation, you allow emotions to lead your words and actions. Responding to the situation means you keep emotions in check and focus on the problem, not the person. Let the other party know your intention to work out a mutually acceptable solution. Clearly and calmly communicate what you want from the situation and listen to the other party’s views. Understand what counts as a ‘win’? winning the argument or winning the other person over?. The two are very different.

3. Asking great questions

To be a better communicator, don’t try to be the person with all the right answers. Instead, be the one who asks all the right questions, but not one to embarrass anyone. When you ask great questions, you show that you’re eager to engage and open to exploring more into the topic. They encourage the other party to share more of his opinions, stimulate discussion, and even create new ideas. He won’t forget you in a hurry.
How-to do it:
Ask questions that could lead to interesting answers. To do that, keep your questions open-ended, that is, they cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”. Let your questions come from a place of genuine curiosity. Consider how others can benefit from the answers. When you practice good listening skills, thoughtful questions will suggest themselves to you.

4. Being an intelligent and a good listener

This is the most underrated skill that can instantly make you a better communicator. Ever notice that when someone is a good talker, there is a possibility of something doubtful or untrustworthy about him? But when a person is a good listener, we see him as someone who is patient, trusted, and generous.
Why be a good listener?
When a person speaks, he believes he has something of value to share and wants to be heard. If he is not listened to, his self-esteem or ego takes a hit. By listening to him intently, you immediately build a bond by validating his importance as a person or professional.
How-to do it:
Listen to the other party like he’s the most important person in the world at that moment. Be fully engaged and present with her. Block off your all judgment of what she says or what that says about him. Keep your mind from thinking of what you’re going to say. Listen to not just her words, but also his emotions. The tone of voice, pace of speech, and shift in energy can tell you much more about her. This makes it easier for you to respond in the most appropriate way.

5. Using body language

You should know that almost 97% of all human communication is non-verbal (without words). It’s not about what you say, but the overall experience people take away from their meeting with you. The message you send out without even saying a word is the impression others have of you. As humans, we are conditioned to "observe" people and make snap decisions if a person is a friend, foe, or lover.
How-to do it:
Work on the three basics of good body language

  1. Smile
  2. Eye contact
  3. The handshake

Smile at someone from the heart when you meet them. Look the person in the eye when you speak to them, or when they speak to you. Combine smiling and eye contact with a good, firm handshake. Always keep your body relaxed and posture confident. Observe the body language of others to gather important information. Is he engaged? Impatient? Defensive? You can tailor your response for a the outcome you want.

6. Perfecting your introduction

In the busy world, it is important to be concise (short)"some thi yet memorable in the begining of our communication. An introduction is a very short presentation of yourself or your proposal to someone who has no more than 30 seconds. Whether you’re presenting a slating at audition, video introductio or just calling on people, this is one communication skill that will set you apart from the competiton.
How-to do it:
Prepare and cut your thoughts in one to three sentences. It’s not always easy, but put come up with something simple and memorable. For example to a casting director, Sir, I'm a versatile and an imaginative acror. Give the other person a reason to consider you and care. Show him how you can benefit him in a way nothing else can. Then end with a clear call-to-action, this is what you want him to do after your interoduction, isn't it?
Remember, be confident.  When you’re confident, they will so be too.

7. Accepting others and acknowledging what they talk

Acknowledging someone is the act of letting the person know you agree and know something great about him or her. It is different from complimenting or flattering. The difference lies in projecting your intent about the person.
How-to do it:
Look for the good in someone, and tell her how great it is. When we compliment someone, we can be indirectly flattering ourselves. For example, when you say, “I really like your script” or when a director is correcting you in a shot or rehearsals " Aaah! this is better than the way I said the lines". This way in few words and in a subtle way, you are acknowledging the person self which definitely be appreciated

8. Confidence while performing

Performance phobia for actors is one of the biggest all-time fears people have. Be audition or on camera or on a stage.
Yet with its ability to influence the audition, a scene and inspire many individuals at once, it’s one of the most powerful forms of communication.
How-to do it:
Prepare well
Think and give 4 auto-suggestions repeatedly to self

  1. I'm good
  2. I'm better
  3. I will do good
  4. I'm gonna have fun

Then focus on a single object or a person

9. Truthfulness

While there are many best practices in communication, here is one rule above all: Be True To Yourself. People will only trust you if they feel you’re a real person who stands for something worthwhile. Without trust, there can be no quality communication and connection.
How-to do it:
Keep it real. Never try to be someone you’re not. Don’t “fake it” if you haven’t made it, work on getting better until “it” becomes you. You’ll earn people’s respect that way. Be honest with your shortcomings, share inspiring personal experiences, hold yourself accountable to your words, and speak with conviction. Communicating with others will come naturally to you.

Good Looks-Good Training- Working Hard But Still Failing? Know Why

How to Build and Maintain Your Image (Brand) as an actor

The Reason Of Why Are You Failing
Among Lakhs Of Aspiring Actors
Not Realized Acting Is A 'Business' And An Actor Is A 'Product'

All Top Bollywood or Hollywood stars had eventually realized that 'Acting' is not only just a dream and a passion but a 'Business' like any other and they are not only an 'Actor' but a 'Product'.
Which requires a professional marketing and promotional skills of the highest level. It's like manufacturing a soft drink or a toothpaste in a highly crowded market of millions of similar products and trying to be a Coca-Cola or Colgate.
They really worked hard on this aspect alone initially and later hired top marketing agencies to promote them. (TOI 239, 12 07 2015)

In simple words to be a successful actor, you have to create, market and promote your image as an actor vigorously and repeatedly.

How To Repeat The Message

In the worlds of publicity, marketing, advertising and elsewhere, one of the common term is “repeat the message.”
  • This is an important concept that has been utilized since the beginning. Any household name, whether we’re talking Samsung, McDonald’s or Coca-Cola, has employed this, and in no small way. Their message is repeated over and over again to the public.
  • But how can this be interpreted and used to your advantage in the world of acting?
  • In my experience, it’s through, as I termed it “Image Bombardment” or “continuity of Branding.”
But before you can repeat a message to film TV media
you first need to have one
This is where “branding” comes in.
What’s branding?
It’s essentially creating a unique name, image or identity for a product or person in the customer’s (Industry people) mind in order to establish a particular type of something that is significant and unique.

You Must

In case of relevance to the acting world, where you want to promote yourself (product) to casting directors, production houses, coordinators, producers and to all others related to the industryyou must-
  1. Create a unique name for yourself
  2. A clear image
  3. For example- Romantic actor, Hot and Sexy actor, Action actor, Tough guy, Innocent actor, Sly actor or Villain, Finest and the great actor, Comedic actor, Simpleton (villager), Versatile actor etc.

The Two Bollywood 'Business' Concept Examples

  • If you think of Akshay Kumar, you immediately get a clear concept: action hero -type. You even have physical mannerisms come to mind—incredible stunts.
  • Shah Rukh Khan, finest and the great actor. Viewers love him because he’s so versatile, transforming into a character instantly and in totality. They don’t even need to say anything; they can just squint their eyes, start making “the face,” and you immediately get knocked out...just whistling and clapping in a cinema hall, that’s they are identified.
  • Similar are the examples of female actors like Bipasha Basu as a hot and sexy actor or Vidya Balan as a versatile or Priyanka Chopra as “ All in One” actor (Brains, beauty, action, a truly versatile).
  • These actors have become legends in this era. Their “image” or brand is unforgettable. Partially due to this uniqueness, and partially due to the persistent continuity employed in marketing and promotion. Their “messageof uniqueness has been repeated over and over. Their “brand” literally has gone unchanged for a considerable period. And once their “brand” was firmly established, you then saw them shift into comedies and other genres. Whether this was planned or not, just realize the result:
  • Their type firmly established, on-screen, personality repeated, and is NOW the household name.
  • Of course, they possess another uniqueness- persistence, and perseverance in continuously developing their acting craft and taking their career and self as a “Business” model.

Image (Branding) and maintaining a continuity in the image are two of the first things an actor must work for the success of his/her acting career as a business.

When I was younger, I used to wonder why iconic brands like Colgate and Bata needed to advertise. I mean, why spend so much when everybody already knows all about them? But that’s the point. And that’s how they reached and maintained their classic level: a clear message that defines and expresses the brand; message maintained and never wavered from; message repeated again and again. Regardless of whether you like or agree with these giants, you can learn from them. And you can’t deny their success.

Conclusion

  • Image (Branding) and maintaining a continuity in the image are two of the first things an actor must work for the success of his/her acting career as a business.
  • In a nutshell: Discover who you are. Find a way to capture and express your message to others. Be consistent with that identity and message. Repeat it.

To market and promote your career, make you an actor-businessman and be a Bollywood Star

8 Steps To Prevent Quitting Acting And Fleeing From Mumbai

8 steps to success of acting business

Are You Struggling For More Than 3 Years Without A Good Break In Films Or TV Serials?

Do You Find NOW Difficult To Meet Expenses To Live In Mumbai And Continue Struggle?

Are You Seriously Thinking To Quit Acting And Leave Mumbai?

Wait!

A Struggling Actor's Optimism
A Struggling Actor's Optimism

Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop fighting. There will be the sunshine after darkness~Your Acting Coach

Acting isn't all about portraying with excellence the character and being truthfully in a scene. If you can't get a  break, it's not uncommon and much at all. Acting is only possible if somebody's prepared to sit and watch you perform. Nothing can happen unless you are noticed among thousands.

Your Chances

The statistics are terrifying, with something like 92% of the actors are out of work at any one time. What the figure doesn't reveal is that some 8% get work continuously while the same 92% never get into a situation of working regularly. Unfortunately, this 8% success rate comprises of actors with-

  • Sheer luck like winning a lottery
  • Close relative of top producers, directors or financiers in the industry
  • Actors who can invest to get a job
  • Actors willing to sell themselves (with any price) to get a break

However, the fact is all the above can never guarantee a regular acting assignment and earning the tag of "Market Actor" (know industry actor)
The trick, therefore, is to be in the top 8% minus ABCD as above.

How this could be achieved under current cut-throat competition in the industry?

The Truth

Acting is a Business: Learn to Market Yourself

For anyone aspiring to be a professional actor, knowing your craft is only half the battle. You also need to know how to go out into the real world and find paid acting work. Understanding the business side of the acting industry is absolutely crucial if you want to make a living as an actor. If you can get to grips with these elements of the acting life, you will be well on your way to making a career for yourself as a professional actor.

The Begining

  • Set your acting and life goal-Long and short term and the plan of action
  • Follow-up

Promoting Your Name

No matter how good an actor you are, if nobody knows about you then you aren’t going to get any work. Making sure the right people are aware of you and what you can do is absolutely fundamental. So how do you do that?

Step 1

Promotional Package
The first step is to put together a proper promotional package to send to casting directors,  production houses, and artist coordinators. This should include your actor’s CV, a set of the professional-quality portfolio (head shots) and, ideally, a professional-quality acting showreel plus or video introduction

A  package containing all three of these elements will effectively demonstrate to industry gatekeepers that you have the skills and experience they are looking for. It also allows them to judge the kind of roles you might be suitable for. That way they can start offering you appropriate auditions or recommend you to other industry professionals who may be able to offer you work.

Step 2

Website
In the modern digital age, it’s increasingly easy (and important) for actors to market themselves online. There are several ways you can this but the most popular and effective are creating a website with the same information found in your promotional package and making good use of social media.

Step 3

Build Connections
The old saying “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” isn’t entirely true, but it’s not completely false either. The truth is, success in the acting industry is about what you know AND who you know. Getting to know the right people means when opportunities arise, they can give you the chance to take advantage of them. You still need the skills to make the most of those opportunities, but the industry insiders definitely help.
To make the most of your time in networking, you need to know where to go and who to speak to. Do your research and find out which casting directors, agents, and other industry figures are involved with the kind of projects you would like to work on.
One you get in a room with someone you want to connect with, be brave, smile and go say hello. A large part of succeeding is simply having the courage and self-confidence to put yourself out there. Once you have introduced yourself, find common ground and make sure to ask plenty of questions about their work while also making sure you communicate your own career ambitions without directly asking them to help straight away.

Step 4

Getting Good Artist Coordinators ( some may call themselves 'casting directors')
Every aspiring serious professional actor has to have few good career promoting guys. It’s their job to get you meetings and auditions with casting directors, directors, producers and anyone else who can offer you work. They can also chase up people for you after an audition and talk you up to increase your chances of landing a role. They’ll negotiate on your behalf when you are offered a role and a good agent will get you more money with better terms than you would be likely to achieve representing yourself. An experienced coordinator will know a lot more people in the business than you could ever hope to, so will hugely increase the opportunities available to you.
How do you find them? Again, you need to do your research. Find out online, on social media, co aspiring actors, industry people like crew members, from schools and acting coach

Step 5

Managing  Auditions
Of course, getting auditions doesn’t mean you’ve made it. You need to actually win the audition in order to progress to the bit where you’ll start getting paid. Obviously, a huge part of that comes down to how good you are as an actor, but there is also a whole load of audition etiquette that you need to know. Get this right and you’ll be judged purely on your acting. Get in a wrong and you’ll be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Some key points for audition are

  • Be on time. Never be late
  • Be a good listener first and then respond
  • Prepare your lines
  • A high level of confidence
  • Knowing how to behave
  • Be prepared for a rejection

Step 6

Manage Your Finances
Budget and simply live within your means. Save for the rainy days

Step 7

Continuing Developing Your Professional Acting
Although we are talking about the business of acting rather than the craft of acting, the two are obviously interconnected. The more you learn as an actor, the better you will be and the more opportunities you are likely to get. This can mean taking acting classes in schools or with your acting coach, workshops, but may also involve developing additional skills such as dancing, martial arts, horse riding etc. This will also look good to agents and casting directors as it demonstrates that you are a hard worker who takes their career seriously and is open to learning and developing.

Step 8

Learning Acting Business quickly
Learning how to negotiate the business side of the acting industry can take years, while many actors never get the hang of it at all. The sooner you get to grips with the business of acting, the sooner you can start supporting yourself as a professional actor. Therefore, the best is to learn from your teacher at a school (most don't teach this in detail) or from your acting coach
